The wildlife along the Denmark coast is as diverse as the countryside. One of the top six areas in the world for bio-diversity, this southern most coast is a wildlife wilderness. There are even several species of birds and animals which can be found no where else on earth.
The Black Swan of Western Australia makes it's home along the waterways surrounding the Wilson Inlet in Denmark, along with the Western Australian Pelican (soaring overhead), the Blue Wren is the symbol of Denmark and their bright blue feathers can be seen from most windows in the region.
Birdlife of all kinds
The birdlife along the Denmark Coast is as diverse as the countryside. There are several species of birds which can be found no where else on earth.
Around Ocean Beach at the sandbar at the entrance to Wilson Inlet, numerous seabirds and some waders roost. You can also look for the Red-capped and Hooded Plover and Rock Parrot.
Binoculars are great for viewing shorebirds.
Living close to the waterways of the coast, most residents note the daily and yearly patterns of the migrating birds as they come and go with the seasons.

The Wilson Inlet
The Wilson Inlet suports much birdlife, in fact 240 species of land, water and marine birds can be seen throughout the year. The Purple Crowned Lorikeet, Port Lincon Ringneck, Western Rosella, New Holland Honeyeater, Tawny Frogmouth, Silvereye and Red Capped Parrot all live here. The waterbird species that can be seen are the Australian Pelican, Little Black Cormorant and Little Pied Cormorant, Black Swan, Grey Teal, Australian Shoveller, Blue Billed Duck, Red-necked Avocet and Silver Gull.

Carnaby's Black Cockatoo, Baudin's Black Cockatoo, Western Rosella, Red-capped Parrot, Red-winged Fairy-wren, Western Thornbill, Western Spinebill, Swan River, Honeyeater, White-breasted Robin and Red-eared Firetaill.
The Blue Wren is the symbol of the Denmark Shire and the bird's bright blue feathers can be seen from most windows in the region.
The Wilson Inlet is a haven for many species of waterbirds which migrate from as far as New Zealand to shelter in the waters surrounding Denmark, WA
